Introduction
September 30, 2006
So here it is cyclocross season has begun and while I’m missing the first 2 wisconsin cup races due to Tim’s wedding and the Apple Cider Century I thought I’d still write a brief intro. When I try to explain cyclocross to people it always sounds weird so I’ll just pull wikipedia.org’s:
“Cyclo-cross is a form of bicycle racing. Races consists of many laps of a short (1–2 mile) course featuring pavement, wooded trails, grass, steep hills and obstacles requiring the rider to quickly dismount, carry the bike whilst navigating the obstruction and remount in one graceful motion”
So cross is crazy. I got interested after reading about the big races in Belgium and the
Netherlands with tens of thousands of cheering fans screaming at their favorite racers covered in mud jumping of their bikes and climbing staircases or giant hills of mud. Last year I tried a local ‘cross race and fell in love despite it being a giant disaster and being incredibly sore and temporarily disabled for days. I ended up racing several races until I broke my arm in a completely unrelated accident which just meant I enjoyed races from the sidelines. It was at these races that I really meet and got to be friends with several guys on XXX Racing-Athletico which lo & behold is now my team too.
