Typing

If you look carefully at the photo above I’m typing out a fake email.  At first I just pounded the keys randomly, but then I realized that if someone (as if) were to zoom in they would be able to see that the gibberish had none of the chunking of a normal section of text & would instantly see it was staged.  So I depended on my good ole friend Lorem Ipsum which reminded me of a story.

At my old job one of the tasks I had was laying out webpages and making sure they would meet the needs of our business analysts & be relatively easy to implement for our software teams all the while making sure they were easy to read & interact with for our end users.  Frequently I’d be working on a page where we knew there needed to be text that hadn’t yet been conceived.  So I would go online to cut & paste the standard fake Latin text into the spaces.  When I was in college you could actually buy sheets of it in different type faces for doing layouts.

One day I presented my designs to our business partners who had already seen my designs via email.  They liked the designs after some minor tweaks but their one major comment was that they felt like user’s might not be able to read Latin.  So they requested I translate the text before it went into production.

For fun here is the English translation of the famous placeholder text:
Nor again is there anyone who loves or pursues or desires to obtain pain of itself, because it is pain, but because occasionally circumstances occur in which toil and pain can procure him some great pleasure. To take a trivial example, which of us ever undertakes laborious physical exercise, except to obtain some advantage from it? But who has any right to find fault with a man who chooses to enjoy a pleasure that has no annoying consequences, or one who avoids a pain that produces no resultant pleasure?
